I fly into Moroni, the capital of the Comoros. Unlike the Seychelles, Maldives and Mauritius, this Indian Ocean nation sees very little tourism and is one of the poorest countries on Earth. I stay in the lush surroundings of the Istandra Beach Hotel, but take a tour of the Island's sights, including the old capital, Iconi, a wander through the markets of Moroni, and stop by a beach to watch some fishermen out in the surf. A most memorable trip.

Mayotte is a magnet for Comoros islanders who risk their lives crossing hazardous seas in search of a better life. ★Watch Most Popular Documentaries Released at http://documentary.center/ ★ Against the backdrop of today's refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, another tragedy has gone almost unreported on the east coast of Africa between Mozambique and Madagascar. Mayotte, one of the four islands in the Comoros archipelago, used to be a French Overseas Territory but now is part of France, the 101st departement of the Republic. But it is also at the centre of a crisis unfolding in the Indian Ocean. Mayotte covers almost 400 square kilometres and has a population of about 214,000, the majority of whom are Muslim. It is surrounded by coral reefs and the ancient Arab sailors whose ships often...

More than 100 passengers are stranded after pilots at Tanzania's main airport failed to report to work following their Christmas break, officials said. They were due to have flown on 27 December from Dar es Salaam to Comoros and other destinations. Angry passengers accused the carrier, state-owned Air Tanzania, of treating them badly. An Air Tanzania spokeswoman said it did not know why the pilots had failed to turn up for work. The pilots were off on Christmas Day and the next day and were expected back at work on Saturday. "We feel that there could be a problem because this is not a normal occurrence," said the spokeswoman, Lily Fungamtama. "We apologise to all our passengers for the inconvenience and we have done all we can to book alternative flights so they can go back to their ...
